TEDx Brisbane 2026 — Thomas Dixon Centre

I was part of a five-person photography team covering TEDx Brisbane, working my zone around the Big X activation area — food, merch and branding. It's a different rhythm to shooting the stage. You're watching people grab coffee, dig through swag, stop and actually read the partner signage, and you're trying to catch the moment two people start talking rather than just someone standing there. The brief from the coordinators was simple: quality over quantity, and always look for connection over a lone face in frame.

That stuck with me — it's basically how I shoot everything anyway.

Why candid-style event photography:

Corporate events move fast. Conversations start and end in seconds, and the moment someone notices the camera, it stops looking real. I try to stay a step behind that — working the room quietly, thinking about what's happening in the background as much as the foreground, and waiting for the moment two people are actually connecting instead of just posing for a photo. That's the shot I'm chasing at every event, whether it's a stage, a food truck line, or a boat on the river.
